The statue of James Martin was unveiled in Martin Place by The Hon. Dom Perrottet, MLA, NSW Treasurer on Thursday 5th November, 2020 in the presence of :

NSW Chief Justice The Hon. T F Bathurst AC

The Hon. Mark Speakman, SC MLA, NSW Attorney General, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Leader of the House

The Hon. Rob Stokes, MLA, NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces

The Hon. Dr Geoff Lee, MLA, NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education

The Hon. Walt Secord, MLC, Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Special Minister of State, and Shadow Minister for the Arts

and The Hon. Adam Searle, MLC, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Shadow Minister for Planning and Better Living, Shadow Minister for the North Coast, Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, and Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations

Lysicrates Foundation James Martin Statue

The statue portrays the 12-year-old James Martin striding off from Parramatta to school in Sydney. Also in the photo is the sculptor of the statue, Alan Somerville, who previously sculptured the diggers on the Anzac Bridge.

The event attracted widespread media coverage on TV news channels including Channel 7, Daily Telegraph, Treasurer's media release, NSW Govt. Planning, Greek City Times and Ben Fordham's interview with Dominic Perrottet on Radio 2GB. Multipartisan support for boy James Martin Statue in Martin Place

On Thursday 21st November 2019, in Parliament House, the positioning of the statue of James Martin in Martin Place was announced in the presence of (left to right):
the Lord Mayor of Parramatta Bob Dwyer, the Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for the Arts, Walt Secord MLC, the Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders MLA, the NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet MLA, the Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, the Governor's husband Dennis Wilson, Dr Patricia Azarias, Sculptor Alan Somerville, the Governor of NSW Margaret Beazley AO QC, the NSW Minister for Planning Robert Stokes MLA, the Shadow Minister for Planning Adam Searle MLC, and John Azarias.

The unveiling took place onThursday 5th November 2020.

A most interesting book entitled “Lysicrates and Martin - Two arts patrons of history return to give again” has been published by Melbourne University Press.
