2018 Martin-Lysicrates Photo Competition Prize Winner

August 9th, 2019

Congratulations to Chatswood High for winning the 2018 Martin-Lysicrates Prize Photo Competition: “Send a photo of students doing something relating to the Martin-Lysicrates competition”.

On the left, the acting Principal Evelyn Manson is being presented by Patricia Azarias, co-founder of the Lysicrates Foundation, with a $1,000 cheque for the Chatswood High School library.

The class came up with the caption

“Drama doesn’t care who you are.”

Above is Teacher Nicola Hoffman with her winning Year 8 students at Chatswood High. The students acted out one of the plays “The Shifting Heart” by Richard Beynon.

Nicola gave some background:

“As Chatswood is a 70% EAL/D school I wanted to take a cross curricular approach to the English classroom and study Italian immigration in the 1960’s."

The students loved the topic and engaged with the characters. On the last day of term we had an “Italian” party in our open air theatre while students performed their chosen scenes.
